Augmentations to a design are very common.  We see them all the time.  Different types and takes on an already developed concept.  Rails, Freefloat systems, pistol grips, buttstocks....yeah, these some that come to mind first for the AR-15.  Advancements on a design are not nearly as common.

MagPul has finally released the Battery Assist Device, or B.A.D. latch for short.  This isn't an augmentation, this is an advancement for any serious shooter when reloads and efficiency are vital to get more rounds on target to win the competition, or get back into the fight.
